Saturday Style: April 2nd
Style is often in the details, in my experience anyway. Jeans and a t-shirt: great. Jeans and a t-shirt with a pair of colorful sneakers: stylish. A suit and tie: nice. A suit and tie with a floral pocket square: stylish. Shorts and a shirt: solid. Shorts and a shirt with structured sunglasses: stylish.
Details are where one's unique fashion voice can be heard. So don't ignore them.
When thinking about an outfit, plan it all the way through. Pants, shirt, and shoes are where things start, but what about the bag you're going to grab on your way to work, the jacket you're going to put on before you go out, or the hat you take to run errands in. These are all opportunities to show personal style.
One of the things I'm often grabbing is an umbrella. I live in Portland, so rain is a constant. As I mentioned in my previous post, I changed my style not too long ago, and I needed a new umbrella. One that could work with my dressed up outfits (buttoned shirt, tie and slacks) as well as casual clothes (t-shirt and joggers).
I went to my go-to, J.Crew, and was not disappointed. They paired with ShedRain (a Portland based company) for their umbrella, and it fit my look. What I like is the curved handle that gives the umbrella an elegant look as well as the sleek style that goes with everyday wear. And it is collapses to fit in my bag. Practical.
So whatever detail you're grabbing before you go out the door, think of it as the finishing touch to your outfit. Choose something that fits you and the aesthetic you want to create.
