Saturday Style: March 26th
Everywhere you look there are naked ankles. Rolling up pant legs has been in for the past few years and as a short-in-terms-of-menswear queer, I've been enjoying this look because it means I don't have to pay to get all my pants hemmed (learning to sew is on my to-do list).
Iconic with the 50's greaser look, rolled pant legs are not just for jeans. While the roll can go with chinos or jeans for a casual style, folding the end of tailored trousers gives a professional, clean-lined look.
If you want to step up your ankle game, nothing works better than the reincarnated jogger. No longer just for Bushwick hipsters, many brands now sell joggers in sweats and utility pants. As always, they offer a great way to show off those new sneakers.
One issue with the jogger is that it brings back the problem of length (the point is to have a little ankle showing). Luckily the urban aesthetic the jogger offers contains its own solution: push it up. Having the fabric bunched below the knee or at the ankle works with the style. And how much ankle shows is a matter of preference. I have seen the pant leg of joggers fall a few inches above the ankle as well as at the ankle, so you choose.
Personally I am embracing the jogger because the utility pant specifically offers the perfect combination of city and dapper. In the past my wardrobe was more vintage inspired, and I do love the looks of the 20's and 30's. Last year I decided an update was in order and found myself inspired by street fashion. Now I look for pieces that can be styled with urban and classic elements: joggers fit the bill.
