Saturday Style: April 9th
Men's shirt sleeves, too long and too wide. Granted, men don't fit into every button up they try on either, but for cis-female bodies there are often some extra challenges (those challenges can offer solutions though). We'll get to long-sleeve shirts in a future post. For now, it's time to show off those arms in short sleeves.
To be clear, we're focusing on collared-button up shirts here. And for me, the sleeves are often too wide. They balloon out on my arms, creating an extra triangle of fabric that looks strange. Reason being, they're too big. This is especially frustrating if the rest of the shirt fits well (which does not always happen. A.K.A hips).
Possible solutions: 1. Wear long-sleeved shirts and roll up the arms. This can work, but when it's really hot out, having bulky fabric around your arms is uncomfortable. 2. Tailor the arms. With short sleeves it's a relatively easy process. Unfortunately for me, I still haven't learned how to use a sewing machine. I should talk to my friend Jack about that; he does (interview coming soon). 3. Find a shirt that fits well. This can take time, but once you do you will not regret it.
Fit is the first commandment when it comes to style tips, and not just for shirts. When clothing fits well you feel comfortable, have confidence, and it looks damn good.
So keep looking - everywhere. Once you find a short-sleeve shirt that fits, the good news is that you now know a brand and cut that works for you. And that's called, satisfaction.
