Saturday Style: March 19th
You've been cooped up in the house for months cozied up in wool socks by the fire. The sun starts shining. What do you want to do? Get out. So plan a trip and grab your bag.
And a good bag is hard to find. I know; I've looked.
I want a bag I can throw over my shoulder when I'm walking through the airport and put in the trunk when I'm taking a drive. I had my eye on J.Crew's Abington weekender bag for over a year. Rugged canvas, leather handles, and a classic look. It fit my style perfectly.
When it disappeared at the introduction of J.Crew's Harwick collection, I figured I missed my chance for the perfect bag. I looked for other options, but nothing gave me that same look or offered an equal amount of space without being cumbersome on my 5 foot 5 inch frame. So when it magically returned to their online store months later, I ordered it immediately before it could go missing again.
I haven't regretted the choice.
I took the bag with me this weekend when my girlfriend and I went to Bend to celebrate her birthday. What I love about the Abington over many of the other canvas bags I saw is the space it gives without looking bulky. I can pack shoes, drop kit, several outfit choices (because you just never know when you might need to pull out a tie or throw on some hiking boots), and still have room for other items. The handles make it easy to carry and the detachable strap allows another option when you need your hands.
And it looks great. The simplicity of the design and the classic look of the canvas make it a bag that can accompany with any outfit or travel adventure.
Now that I've got my perfect bag I can look for another option to take to the gym, and I've already found a good choice. Walking around downtown Bend I discovered Revolvr, a menswear store I could have spent the entire weekend in. The place was filled with options for casual wear, sport coats and collared shirts when something more dressy is required, shoes, sunglasses, hats, shaving needs, a bar with a couple of taps in the back, and, of course, bags. The Jack and Mulligan Kennedy duffle may be returning home with me
