Saturday Style: March 12th
I’ve been told I should write a fashion blog. I care about style and aesthetic. I notice what people wear around me and celebrate the arrival of GQ in the mail. For me, clothes are a form of expression and a way to display my personality. This series will give me the chance to explore the history of clothing, discuss trends, and provide tips to my fellow fashion aficionados. The focus will be on men’s style from a gender queer cis-female bodied perspective.
Let’s get started.
Spring is a time when the weather starts to warm up and clothing starts to come off. Admittedly, I’m more of a fan of the layered seasons where there is an abundance of opportunity to change my shape. It’s a lot easier to play down my chest in a buttoned worker shirt over a crew-neck T than just a v-neck T.
Luckily, spring still offers opportunities for layers. One of the most essential being the jacket. The weather this time of year varies widely. Cold and rainy one day. Then warm and sunny the next. A way to keep a wardrobe versatile as well as infuse personal style is with a jacket: fatigue, bomber, Harrington, or anorak.
This last fall and winter the jean jacket again became a piece to add under a peacoat or throw on over a zipped hoodie. Now that the weather is changing it's becoming a stylish solution to wear on top of a t-shirt. Collar popped or down. Buttoning the jacket all the way up for a structured look or leaving it open and embracing the casual. A simple jean jacket can offer a variety of looks.
And now that I'm not worrying about spring's lack of layers, I can enjoy all my girlfriend’s sun dresses that are starting to make an appearance again. Yes, please!
